Health and Medical Sciences prepare students for careers in disciplines related to medicine, nursing, dentistry and allied health programs through therapeutic, diagnostic, rehabilitative, managerial and supportive services.
Health & Medical Science Courses:

  • introduce secondary students to nursing, medical, dental, and allied health occupations
  • prepare students with basic skills for employment in nursing homes, clinics, medical and dental offices, hospitals, homes, and certain public health settings
  • facilitate entry into advanced health occupations programs that require post-high school education leading to state licensure, certification, registration, or national credentialing
  • enable students to become more knowledgeable consumers of health services.

Through the Business and Information Technology program, students are provided opportunities to complement their academic preparation while exploring a variety of careers and learning skills and concepts in the areas of keyboarding and word processing, computer applications and solutions, entrepreneurship and principles of business and marketing.
Intensive preparation for business and information technology careers is available at the secondary level. Courses enable students to investigate opportunities in business, prepare for entry and advancement on the job, develop management skills and identify further education and training necessary within a chosen career cluster.

The technology education program provides experiences that lead to the development of technologically literate people. At the elementary school level, students are introduced to technology and begin learning to use it in the classroom. At the middle school level, students considering a career in technology may explore the subject in several overview courses. At the high school level, students take courses to prepare them for technical or professional programs of higher education, such as engineering or architecture.

Consistent with their abilities, interests, and educational needs, students completing a technology education program will achieve the following goals:

  • Comprehend the dynamics of technology, including its development, impact, and potential.
  • Employ the technological processes of problem-solving, creating and designing.
  • Analyze the behavior of technological systems and subsystems, including the tools, materials, processes, energy, information, and people involved in systems.
  • Apply scientific principles, engineering concepts, and technological systems in the processes of technology.
  • Discover and develop personal interests and abilities related to a wide variety of technology-oriented careers.
